Hi, I'm Steven, a Tai Chi practitioner of 15 years. I have studied Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan from my Sifu (teacher) Jordan Misner of Wind River Tai Chi. I have also studied with his teacher Grand Master Sam Tam out of Vancouver Canada. We are starting classes in southwest Tucson, and I would like to invite you to attend a class as my guest to learn more about our tai chi.
Finding and studying and bringing the philosophy and practice of Tai Chi into my life has been one of the most amazing and beneficial things I have done for my health and well-being. I would love to tell you all the ways it has benefited and enhanced my quality of life. One of the reasons I initially sought out Tai Chi was a desire to study mind-body movement art that gets better with age. I was always mesmerized with the flow and smoothness of the way tai chi practitioners moved. Additionally, one of the main reasons I took up the art was for the mediation aspect to help still a mind that never stopped running. The longer I studied and practiced I began to truly understand how it encompasses and promotes balance, calmness, breath work, martial aspects and the health of my internal organs, but there is a wealth of information out there about the benefits, so I won’t go into that.
My practice has convinced me that your confidence will increase through standing mediation. Plus, just stopping and being still in body and mind during standing practice allows the outside world and background noise to fade. As you stand and begin listening to your internal flow of chi throughout your body it brings you into deeper harmony with yourself and the world around you. The tai chi form will improve balance and flow of movement as it teaches you how to shift 100 percent from one foot to the other. The tai chi push hands practice teaches you how to apply the lessons of standing and the form in contact with another person. One of my favorite training methods is the practice of bouncing. Bouncing is something unique to our practice that teaches us a way to learn to emit energy without using muscle and power.
So many people I have met wish they would have found this practice earlier in life, but no matter the age it has amazing benefits. There are several types of Tai Chi: Wu, Yang, and Chen, they all have their benefits. I have stayed solely with my tai chi linage because I can spend a whole lifetime and still be a student. Each time I practice I experience something new and amazing, and my understanding is always evolving.
